City tour & playas

Located on a large bay on the Sea of Cortes, La Paz is 137 miles (220 km) by road north of the southern tip of the peninsula. Looking out from the downtown core you see the Mogote Peninsula with its many varieties of birds. La Paz was founded by Hernan Cortez on May 3, 1535 but the hostility of the environment forced him to retreat a year later. Other efforts to colonize the area brought Sabastian Vizcaino in 1596, Isidro de Atondo and Antillon in 1863, the Jesuits Juan de Ugarte and Jaime Bravo in 1720 and finally in 1811, Jose Espinoza who established the first permanent settlement that turned La Paz into the capital of Baja California Sur in 1830.
Although situated on a lovely long beach, the best beaches for swimming and sunbathing are found north of the city on the road to Tecolote. Playa Palmira, Playa el Coromuel, Playa el Caimancito, Playa del Tesoro, Playa Pichilingue, Playa Balandra, Playa el Tecolote and Playa el Coyote are havens for the beach lovers.
In this excursion, after a guided city tour in La Paz, the customers will be transported to the breathtakingly beautiful Playa Balandra, and to Playa Tecolote, where they can spend the time swimming, snorkeling and sunbathing.

Whale Watching tour
(Bahia Magdalena)
Baja is well known as a great place to whale watch. The Gray whale spends summers in the waters off of Alaska, and then heads 6,000 miles (almost 10,000 km) south to the warmer lagoons of Baja in January, February and March. Their main reason for heading south is to mate and give birth in the protected shallow lagoons in Baja. No other location on Earth offers such an experience. The three main lagoons these whales return to every year are (from north to south) Laguna Ojo de Liebre about half way down the Peninsula, Laguna San Ignacio about 100 miles (160 km) further south, and Bahia Magdalena, which stretches about 100 miles (160 km) from the northern end to the southern end below Laguna San Ignacio. All three areas offer an excellent venue for whale watching up close.
This excursion consists of the transportation from La Paz to Bahía Magdalena and back, a 3-hour tour by boat to see the whales, as well as a lunch in a restaurant.

Espiritu Santo Island
The island of Espíritu Santo is the closest island to the bay of La Paz and possesses the most stunning views of all the islands in the Sea of Cortés. Its contrasting desert landscapes and reddish limestone cliffs juxtaposed with a turquoise blue sea is a breathtaking example of the exquisite vistas found here. Travelers from all over the world visit Espíritu Santo’s coves and canyons to camp, snorkel, scuba dive or simply relax on its many beautiful beaches.

In this excursion, the visitors will have a chance to admire Ensenada de Pescadores, a quiet beach with few visitors except for the fishermen that inhabit a small dwelling set away from the beach with its own sheltered slipway. We will also pass by Playa Partida. There are actually two sand spits in this “gap” between the two islands. On the northeastern spit, up against the rocks, there is a marvelous spot to make camp. The huge crater walls that surround this area and the vast expanse of shallow water provide a spectacular view. One can easily imagine how Partida and Espíritu Santo were one landmass before the volcanic crater was breached by the sea. It is possible to negotiate the channel in vessels that do not draw more than one foot of water, however your campsite can be subject to severe winds in this area. The box lunch will be served in Candelero, considered by many the most attractive bay on the island. It has a stunning beach with a spectacular ridge splitting the bay in half with several detached islets and a larger island in the middle of the bay. Further attractions include an interesting 10-minute hike up the northern arroyo.
